NationalUS Embassy celebrates 246th Independence Day

The Embassy of the United States of America in Brunei Darussalam hosted a celebration of the 246th Independence Day of the United States last Wednesday at the official residence of the U.S Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn McClelland.

The Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham Bin Haji Jaafar was a guest of honour during the Independence Day celebration reception. Also seen during the reception were government officials, business executives, civil society leaders and other invited guests.

In an opening remark by Ambassador McClelland, she lauded the growing U.S-Brunei cooperation in several areas of development, such as enhancing regional security, combating climate change, and strengthening people-to-people connections through professional and academic exchange programmes.

“In many ways, the pandemic forced us to be more creative about how we collaborate to solve mutual challenges, but it never diminished our resolve to work together for the betterment of our countries and the Indo-Pacific region.”

She also reiterated the Biden Administration’s commitment to enhance U.S relations with its regional partners to support post-pandemic recovery, strengthen economic ties, promote environmental sustainability and maritime cooperation, and improve people-to-people connectivity.

In keeping up with the event’s theme, American Backyard BBQ, Ambassador McClelland presented a deluxe set of U.S-made grilling tools to the Minister of Health YB Dato Haji Mohd Isham.

U.S exchange program alumni Aisyah Zulkarnain and Basil Ali Witsqa performed the national anthems of Brunei and the United States.
