The first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has been administered to 37,089 students (97%) who were scheduled to be vaccinated between November 8 and 19 as part of the National Vaccination Program for Students Aged 12 to 17.
The inoculation of the second dose will commence on December 6. Schedules will soon be distributed to parents and stakeholders through each respective school.
In a press conference yesterday, Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman informed that 3% of the students have not been immunised, with the majority of them unable to attend their scheduled vaccination appointments earlier.
“Students who have not yet received their immunisation are urged to contact their schools for further instructions,” said the minister.
About 95 per cent of students at the higher education institutions have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 72 per cent have completed both doses. All students would have to be fully vaccinated to progress to the next level of physical learning.
Education Minister Dato Haji Hamzah also expressed his appreciation to the task force at the vaccination centres, officials, school leaders, supervising teachers on duty, and parents and guardians for their full and solid cooperation in ensuring the seamless execution of the first dosage.
“The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs also hope that all parties involved in the first dosage implementation will show the same level of support and cooperation for the second administration of the COVID-19 vaccines”, the minister continued.
“It is our hope that by working together, we can help contain the Covid-19 pandemic and contribute to the safety and well-being of the community”.
